Current PSI format: the Louisiana Electrical Statewide Contractor exam contains 100 questions, a four-hour time limit, and a 70% minimum passing score. The examination is open book and currently uses the 2023 National Electrical Code, OSHA construction safety material and Ugly's Electrical References.
The Louisiana Electrical Statewide examination is the contractor trade exam connected to the state's Electrical major classification. It measures whether a qualifying party can apply electrical-code rules, trade knowledge, installation requirements, calculations, construction safety standards and approved reference materials under a strict time limit.
The current PSI outline contains 100 questions. Six categories each contain 10 questions, which means those six high-volume subjects make up 60% of the current examination. That makes them a smart place to concentrate your early contractor exam prep.
Exam answer: 100 questions, 240 minutes, 70% minimum passing score, open book, 2023 NEC, OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926 and Ugly's Electrical References.
Licensing answer: Louisiana contractor licensing is handled through the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors. Electrical projects exceeding the state's current electrical-project threshold require the appropriate commercial contractor license.
The exam is broader than basic code lookup. Candidates should prepare for services, feeders, branch circuits, grounding and bonding, conductors, raceways, overcurrent protection, special occupancies, motors, transformers, lighting, signs, communications and safety.
This page combines information from 3 primary authority groups and 7 visible secondary research groups. Current PSI and Louisiana licensing information controls when older commercial exam-prep pages show different exam numbers.

The Electrical Statewide examination is one part of Louisiana's commercial contractor licensing process. Passing the trade exam does not by itself create the contractor license.
Electrical classification: Louisiana treats Electrical as a major contractor classification requiring the applicable trade examination.
Commercial license threshold: Louisiana currently requires a commercial contractor license for electrical projects exceeding $10,000 in labor and materials.
Qualifying party: the applicant designates a qualifying party who completes the required verification process and represents the company for the classification.
Trade exam: once approved to test, the Electrical Statewide trade examination is scheduled through PSI.
Business and Law: a qualifying party who has not already satisfied the requirement completes the Louisiana Business and Law course/test through the LSLBC Contractor Portal.
Each bar is scaled against the six largest 10-question categories.

Follow the state application process, prepare the approved references, pass the electrical trade exam and complete Louisiana Business and Law.
Make sure the Electrical classification matches the commercial electrical work your company plans to perform in Louisiana.
Provide the applicable company, ownership, qualifying-party, financial and supporting documentation required by LSLBC.
The designated qualifying party completes the online verification process through the LSLBC Contractor Portal.
Study directly with the 2023 NEC, OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926 and Ugly's Electrical References.
Prioritize the six 10-question categories, then drill overcurrent protection, conductors, raceways, motors, safety and low-voltage systems.
Complete the 100-question examination within four hours and meet the current 70% minimum passing score.
After approval, complete the online Business and Law requirement through the Contractor Portal and finish any remaining licensing steps.
Open-book strategy: identify the subject first, choose the correct reference, use the index or permanent tabs, locate the governing rule or formula, and then evaluate the answer choices. The goal is not to memorize every page. The goal is to know which book to use and how to find the answer fast.
