Nevada C-15 licensing note: the full C-15 Roofing and Siding classification is broader than roofing alone. Nevada regulations include roofing, siding, insulation and waterproofing within the C-15 family of work.
The Nevada C-15 classification is a specialty contractor license regulated by the Nevada State Contractors Board. It covers exterior systems that help keep structures watertight, weatherproof and protected from the elements.
The full C-15 classification includes the work authorized under its roofing, siding, insulation and waterproofing subclassifications. That makes the C-15 trade exam broader than the C-15A Roofing-only examination.
Candidates should be ready for questions involving steep-slope roofing, roof substrates, repairs, low-slope systems, siding, flashing, safety and roof-mounted photovoltaic system considerations.
C-15: full Roofing and Siding classification with roofing, siding, insulation and waterproofing scope.
C-15A: roofing-only subclassification.
Testing: Nevada determines eligibility and PSI administers the examination.
The Nevada C-15 Roofing and Siding Contractor Online Exam Prep Course is built around roofing and siding trade knowledge, code navigation and timed contractor exam preparation.
The trade exam is one part of the Nevada State Contractors Board licensing process.

About impressions: private Google Search Console impressions, private backlink counts and proprietary authority scores are not public data. The authority counts above describe the sources actually used to verify page content.
The current Nevada C-15 trade exam contains 60 scored questions and allows two hours. Candidates need at least 45 correct answers to meet the current passing standard.
Steep Roofing is the largest category with 16 questions. Roofing Substrates and Siding contain eight questions each. Elastomeric Roofing and Built-Up Bituminous Roofing contain seven each.
The remaining categories include Safety, Roofing Repairs, Sheet Metal and Flashing, and Photovoltaic Systems. That means a candidate who studies only shingles may discover, rather rudely, that the exam also remembers siding, membranes, flashing and solar-related roof conditions exist.
The exam combines roofing trade knowledge with code navigation. A good study plan should train you to recognize the system first and use the International Building Code only when a lookup is actually needed.
Prioritize steep roofing. It is the largest current exam category and covers common steep-slope materials, underlayments, fastening, valleys, ridges, penetrations, flashing and installation principles.
Do not ignore siding. Siding contains eight scored questions, the same number as Roofing Substrates.
Study the closed-reference subjects. Most technical study references are not allowed into the C-15 trade exam, so safety, membranes, estimating, siding and roofing-system knowledge need to be learned before exam day.
Roofing contractors need to work with roof area, slope, quantities, waste, flashing, drainage and material requirements. Exam prep should combine practical estimating skills with fast building-code navigation.
Simplified Nevada C-15 exam prep illustration for roofing systems, siding, flashing, estimating and IBC navigation.
Use a repeatable approach. Identify the roof or exterior-wall system, decide whether the question is technical knowledge or code based, work the calculation if needed and use the IBC to confirm code-specific requirements.
Move from experience verification to Board approval, PSI testing and final contractor licensing.
Make sure the full Roofing and Siding classification matches the work your company plans to contract.
The trade qualifier generally needs four years of qualifying experience within the 15 years immediately before the application.
Provide the required experience documentation, business information, fingerprints and other application materials to the Nevada State Contractors Board.
The Board determines eligibility before the required PSI contractor examinations are scheduled.
Study roofing, siding, safety, flashing, photovoltaic systems and International Building Code navigation.
The Management Qualified Individual should prepare for Nevada business and law requirements unless the Board approves an applicable waiver.
After testing, complete any remaining financial responsibility, bond and Board requirements before the license is issued.
These counts follow the current PSI C-classification bulletin. Bar lengths compare each category with the largest 16-question Steep Roofing section.
Only the current PSI-approved exam-room reference should be treated as an allowed C-15 trade-exam book. The remaining references below are used for technical study.
| Reference | Primary Study Use | Exam-Room Status |
|---|---|---|
| International Building Code, 2018 | Roof coverings, exterior walls, weather protection, structural requirements and building-code navigation | Allowed in the current C-15 trade examination |
| NRCA Roofing Manual: Steep Slope Roof Systems, 2025 | Shingles, tile, slate, wood roofing, underlayments and steep-slope system details | Study only, not allowed in the C-15 examination center |
| NRCA Roofing Manual: Metal Panel and SPF Roof Systems, 2024 | Metal roofing and spray polyurethane foam roofing concepts | Study only |
| NRCA Roofing Manual: Membrane Roofing Systems, 2019 | Membrane and low-slope roofing systems | Study only |
| 29 CFR Part 1926 OSHA | Fall protection, ladders, scaffolds, PPE, tools and construction safety | Study only |
| ASTM D 4756 | Rigid PVC siding and soffit installation | Study only |
| Roofing Construction and Estimating | Roof measurements, estimating, materials and construction fundamentals | Study only |
| Carpentry and Building Construction | Roof framing, sheathing and related construction concepts | Study only |
| NRCA Guidelines for Roof-Mounted Photovoltaic System Installations | Roof penetrations, flashing, drainage and photovoltaic roof coordination | Study only |
| Construction Business and Law Manual for Nevada | Nevada CMS business and law examination | Allowed for the separate CMS exam, not the C-15 trade exam |
Nevada's full C-15 license is broader than the C-15A Roofing subclassification.
C-15A focuses on the installation, application, alteration and repair of watertight and weatherproof roofing materials. The full C-15 classification can perform the work authorized by the Roofing, Siding, Insulation and Waterproofing subclassifications.
The exams are also different. The current C-15 exam has 60 scored questions and includes siding. The C-15A roofing-only exam has a separate content outline and does not include the same siding section.
Choose C-15 when: your intended contracting scope requires the broader roofing-and-siding classification.
Choose C-15A when: your intended Nevada scope is limited to the roofing subclassification and the Board confirms that classification fits your business.
The full classification, its roofing subclassification and the CMS examination serve different purposes.
| Path | Main Purpose | Important Difference |
|---|---|---|
| C-15 Roofing and Siding | Full Nevada roofing-and-siding specialty classification | Includes roofing, siding, insulation and waterproofing scope |
| C-15A Roofing | Roofing-only Nevada subclassification | Narrower scope than the full C-15 classification |
| C-15 Trade Exam | Tests roofing-and-siding trade competency | 60 questions, 45 correct to pass, 2 hours |
| CMS Business and Law | Tests Nevada contractor management and law knowledge | Separate from the C-15 technical trade examination |
| Trade Qualified Individual | Provides the business's technical qualification | Generally needs four years of qualifying experience within the prior 15 years |
Build roofing knowledge, siding knowledge and IBC navigation in focused study blocks.
The exam is manageable when candidates understand roofing systems and know how to use the IBC quickly. The challenge is the combination of trade knowledge and time.
Sixty questions in two hours gives an average of about two minutes per scored question. Steep Roofing is the largest category, but nearly three-quarters of the exam comes from everything else combined.
That is why experienced roofers should still study siding, low-slope systems, safety, flashing and photovoltaic-system questions. The exam is not impressed by how many roofs you have installed if the question in front of you happens to be about PVC siding.

Nevada C-15 contractor exam prep is about more than shingles.
• C-15 is the full Roofing and Siding classification
• The classification includes roofing, siding, insulation and waterproofing scope
• The current trade exam has 60 scored questions
• Candidates need 45 correct answers under the current PSI outline
• International Building Code 2018 is the current allowed C-15 trade reference
• Steep Roofing is the largest current category with 16 questions
• Siding and Photovoltaic Systems are both part of the current exam outline
Study the whole classification, not just the roofing work you perform most often.
