All applicants for a Virginia contractor license (Class A, B, or C) must complete an 8-hour pre-licensing course approved by the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR). This course satisfies that requirement and is designed to prepare you with the knowledge necessary to operate a successful and compliant contracting business in Virginia.

Pre-license education is required for all new contractor licenses and must be completed by a qualifying individual depending on the license type:

• For Class A and B licenses, the course must be completed by a member of responsible management or a designated employee.

• For a Class C license, it must be completed by a member of responsible management.

This education requirement is separate from the Class A and B licensing examinations. The course is a basic business education that covers the regulations, statutes, and requirements essential for all Virginia contractors.
