California General Electrician certification and the C-10 Electrical Contractor license are separate credentials with different authorities and exam structures.
General Electrician certification is an individual worker credential through DIR and DLSE. A General Electrician works for an electrical contractor installing, constructing or maintaining electrical systems covered by the NEC.
The C-10 license is issued through the Contractors State License Board and is the contractor path for businesses or qualifying individuals performing electrical contracting. The current C-10 trade exam is closed book, so a C-10 contractor exam prep plan should not be confused with General Electrician electronic-reference prep.
