Kentucky also has a separate Electrical Contractor license. That contractor credential uses a separate Business, Law and Project Management examination and requires an association with a licensed Master Electrician.

Kentucky separates the Master Electrician license from the Electrical Contractor license. Candidates planning to supervise electrical work and candidates planning to operate an electrical contracting business should understand both credentials.
Master Electrician experience: Kentucky law requires 16,000 hours of verifiable electrical-trade experience before Master licensing, subject to approved education and teaching substitutions.
Electrical training substitution: qualifying electrical training or qualifying electrical teaching experience may substitute for up to 4,000 hours.
Degree or diploma substitution: an applicable associate degree or qualifying diploma may substitute for up to 6,000 hours.
Electrical Contractor: the contractor must pass the Business, Law and Project Management exam and be associated with a licensed Master Electrician.
Insurance: current Kentucky statute requires an Electrical Contractor applicant to maintain at least $1 million in general liability insurance.
Each bar is scaled against Wiring Methods and Materials, the largest 19-question category.
The Master Electrician and Electrical Contractor exams use different reference sets. Prepare with the books listed for the specific exam you are taking.
